Tightening straps, called Marschriemen, were very popular private-purchase items among the soldier of WW1, used to tighten the boots to fit it better to the wearer’s feet. There were plenty of patterns of the Marschriemen, differing almost everything: overall construction, width of the straps or hardware, exactly like all of the other private-purchase items from the civilian market.
